A Fictional Relocation

At this time of year I always dream about moving house. To Chicago.

People tell me I’m crazy. “Maine is so much more scenic and relaxed,” they say. They tell me I’d hate the city, I’d miss the fresh air. What they don’t realise is that I yearn for one house in particular: the McCallister house from Home Alone. It happens to be up for sale this year, so maybe it’s not a pipe dream, after all.

Having said that, I wouldn’t mind a Hobbit Hole or the house from Up, either. Where is your fantasy dream home?

Sarah Pinault is married to her husband but not her job, has a baby that insists on being a toddler, and keeps one foot in the British time zone despite having lived in Maine for 8 years now. She blogs about the meaning of life over at mainemummy.blogspot.com and has been a self-professed geek for well over 20 years.

Rivendell! In a more modern setting, I’m in love with the Cullens’ house from the Twilight movies. Meyer’s vampires are basically blood-drinking elves anyway. lol

This is pretty Hobbit-like http://www.simondale.net/house/

Wow! I want that house now, and in Wales too, pretty perfect.

Dream Homes:
The Tardis, or the Death Star. Who said I couldn’t dream big?

If I had to keep one foot in reality I’d take a Hobbit Home (add highspeed internet), or a nice mad-scientist-appropriate underground facility. Refurbish an abandoned US government missile silo?

I live in Chicago and am trying to get out of here!! A place set in the scenic Northeast Georgia mountains sounds heavenly to me. Though the Shire is always a wonderful place.

Fablehaven would be my choice. Though I do like the house in American Horror Story, and it is for sale IRL…

Oh yes, the Sorenson house would be wonderful. Don’t know how I’d feel about the creepy basement though.

True. But! Brownies doing all your cleaning, repairing and even cooking? Not a bad deal :-D

I love that Up house! I would love a brightly painted house like that.
