Here’s what’s happening in the geek world this month. Got something to add? Let us know.

Nebula Awards Weekend, Washington, DC
May 19-22
The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) will present the Nebula Awards during a weekend filled with activities for science, fiction, and science fiction lovers. You don’t have to be an SFWA member or even a writer to attend.

Maker Faire, San Francisco, CA
May 21-22
The “world’s largest DIY festival,” brought to the Bay Area by Make magazine. There will be quite a few GeekMoms and GeekDads there, so be sure to say hello!

BaltiCon, Baltimore, MD
May 27-30
BaltiCon is Maryland’s regional sci-fi and fantasy con. This year’s guest of honor is prolific science fiction author Ben Bova. Balticon also includes art, costuming, and gaming tracks, along with a lot more.

No matter where you live, it seems like there’s something nearby in May. Here are just a few more:

Ruth’s interests all involve making things, which means her husband and two kids have learned to watch out for stray pins and bead trays and to ask before eating anything made of fondant. By day, she's an editor over at opensource.com. Follow her on Twitter.

Yay, convention season! Two conventions in the San Francisco Bay Area, specifically in the South Bay, on Memorial Day Weekend, May 27 – 30, 2011.

Fanime Con (anime) at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, CA

BayCon (general sci-fi/fantasy) at the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara, CA

Sweet, but nothing in Raleigh. Not until June when it’s our turn to have fun at the Maker Faire!

Yelena–I’m definitely excited about that! I’ll actually have a booth at Maker Faire NC for my day job. But if you want something not too far away this month, there’s also Hickory Con:
